Front End Development

I learned the basic skills for front-end development while taking bootcamps at SheCodes and completing courses at Codecademy. I believe that having coding skills can help to understand and communicate with any dev team, in addition it completes the design skill set.

SheCodes Basics

It was a three-week workshop where I learned the basics of HTML, CSS and Javascript. I completed a one real-life project that consisted of building a landing page using the skills I gained during the three weeks of learning. I made a tennis site about the Big Three tennis players including their photo, biography, and Javascript prompt.

SheCodes Plus

SheCodes Plus

After completing the basic course, I really enjoyed coding and how SheCodes taught me. I continued with my front-end development skills with the SheCodes Plus. It was a three month bootcamp where you learn more about HTML, CSS, and Javascript. During this bootcamp I had to complete a more complex project: a weather app. I also learned about Bootstrap, GitHub, API’s and how to host a website using Netlify.

Codecademy Front-End Development Path

Codecademy Front-End Development Path

After completing the SheCodes courses, I wanted to explore other types of learning and I went to Codecademy and signed up for their Front-End Development path. I noticed that the courses were more in depth and I had to pace myself. I really enjoyed it since it was interactive and there were assignments after each lesson. I really enjoy learning by doing and Codecademy was a great choice. Unfortunately, I did not complete the whole path but I had a great experience.

One of their projects I completed was to create a stylesheet and style it where I had fun playing with the colors and fonts. I believe it was a great exercise to familiarize with properties.

While I was intaking all the front-end information and skills, I wanted to build something for myself. I developed a landing page for The Weeknd’s latest album, where the user can choose a song and it will direct them to a YouTube link where they can listen to the song.
